September 2007 - Don’t Throw Your Batteries in the Garbage Contest . The seventeen schools in the Greater City of Sudbury received invitations (in both languages) to participate in this second annual contest. Five schools registered: Paolo Salvador Teacher, Chelmsford Valley District Composite School; Terry Pagan Teacher, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School; Monika Jost, VP, St. Benedict C.S.S.; Rachel Brazier, enseignant, École secondaire catholique Champlain and Denis Rainville, enseignant, École secondaire Hanmer.

November 2007 Science with Impact Volunteer Training Sessions Saturday November 3, 2007 - 11:00 am - 2:00 pm (English). Facilitator- Cathy Orlando. Participants: Eric Zannier, Laura Rossi, Janet Wiebe, Susan Wiebe, Allison Ransom. Tuesday November 6, 2007, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm (Bilingual). Facilitator: Krystal Lapierre. Participants: Curtis Harnett, Andréane Chernier, Brandi Chuchman. Fifteen current LTSPP volunteers have SWI Training!!

 2007-11-09Sharing videos with the N'Swakamok Alternative School. Educator - Jody Nadjiwon. Shared two movies and accompanying handouts with the Alternative School at the N’Swakamok Friendship Centre in Sudbury. Movies: An Inconvenient Truth and The Day After Tomorrow.

2007-11-27 - Supporting Science Fairs at the School Education, Educator - Andrea Chute, Volunteers Allison Ransom (coordinator), Robert Harniman, Raveena Malik, Cathy Orlando-Mathur. Shared LU-LTSPP science fair resources with 12 School of Education preservice teachers.

2007-12-10 St Charles SS Extreme VR Presentation with David Kurt from Mirarco. Educator -George Fritz. Cathy Orlando and David Kurt devised and gave a presentation about the Extreme VR Science Fair to 30 grade 10 students. Two students agreed to join the science fair

2007-12-12esc Champlain Extreme VR Presentation with David Kurt from Mirarco. Educator – Donald Leger. . Cathy Orlando and David Kurt devised and gave a presentation about the Extreme VR Science Fair to 30 students. Four students committed to doing a science fair project

2007-12-13 Lockerby Composite SS Extreme VR Presentation with David Kurt from Mirarco. Educator – Mr Campeau. Cathy Orlando and David Kurt devised and gave a presentation about the Extreme VR Science Fair to eight students committed to doing a science fair project.

2007-12-14 Lasalle SS Extreme VR Presentation with David Kurt from Mirarco. Educator – Ray Gorzynski. Cathy Orlando and David Kurt devised and gave a presentation about the Extreme VR Science Fair to five students committed to doing a science fair project.

New YearExtreme VR Science Fair Project Mentoring. Volunteers: Cathy Orlando, Matt Strickland and Allison Ransom have agreed to mentor Extreme VR science fair projects. Cathy is mentoring one or maybe two projects at St Charles SS (obesity and colon cancer risk and cloning); Matt Strickland (NOSM- Year I) is mentoring one project from Lockerby SS on the disease Chiari I: and Allison Ransom is an in-service teacher at Lasalle SS and she is mentoring three projects while at the school.

January 2008 - All Science Challenge is a trivia contest for grades 6, 7 and 8 students run by LTSPP’s nationwide. Every year a new booklet is written for students to study from. This year LU’s LTSPP wrote and edited the Earth Science Chapter. Cathy Crouse and Cathy Orlando.

2008-02-03 - The Lorax with a Kids Drama Club . Educator: Suzanne Harvey. Cathy Orlando shared a drama lesson about The Lorax. Eight students, ages 7-13, created and performed short skits based on this Dr Seuss environmental classic.

2008-01-14Sudbury Foodshed Meeting . Chairperson: Doreen Ojala. Cathy Orlando attended a board meeting for the Sudbury Foodshed Project and agreed to be a board member for this project. The Foodshed Project is a not-for-profit organization located in Greater City of Sudbury. It supports the development of a local food system. Their current project is to initiate youth-led projects that support the goals of a sustainable food system.

2008-01-17Women of the Future Meeting . Chairperson: Betty Friedlandt. Cathy Orlando attended a board meeting for the Women of the Future conference and agreed to be a board member for this exciting conference. The goal of the conference is to open the minds of young women in grades 9 and 10 to the vast array of possible life paths available to them. These young women have been identified as bright but at-risk for under-performing or dropping out of school.

2008-01-18YSTOP-Goderich SS. Educator: Allison Durand . Curtis Harnett, arranged an outreach event with a grade 12 biology class at Goderich SS.

2008-01-30Astronomy with Grade 6 Class at RL Beattie . Educator:Tony D’Marco. Cathy Orlando and Catherine Crouse shared the constellations activity with 37 grade 6 students at RL Beattie Public School

2008-02-03The Two Cultures - Science with a Drama Club . Educator - Suzanne Harvey. Cathy Orlando read Dr. Seuss's The Lorax to the drama club and the students created and acted out a drama scene from the book.

2008-02-07 Astronomy with the N'Swakamok Alternative school. Educator: Jody Nadjiwon. Cathy Orlando shared the constellation activity with 10 students at the alternative school. Ojibwe astronomy and astrology(The Zodiac Signs) were highlighted in the presentation.
